Nearly 90,000 told to evacuate as wildfire approaches Reno, Nevada
BREAKING: Nearly 90,000 people told to evacuate as the Hawk Fire reaches the outskirts of Reno, Nevada, around 15,000 acres burned, six injured, and no part of the fire contained. Nevada's governor has declared a state of emergency.
Nearly ninety thousand people are being told to get out around Reno, Nevada. The Hawk Fire hit the outskirts of the city this weekend, and it is not contained. Not one percent of it.
These are the scenes as thousands evacuate, families packing cars while the hills behind them burn. Forty two thousand people are under immediate orders to leave, another forty five thousand are being told to be ready. Fifteen thousand acres gone since Saturday morning, six people injured, three of them emergency responders. You can see the fire from the city itself, burning down dry desert hills with neighbourhoods sitting right at the bottom. Some homes have already been lost.
Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency and sent in the National Guard, seventy two personnel with Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters dropping water from above. Officials say this fire was caused by humans. Ninety thousand lives upended, and it started with a person.
