Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use HIT.TV, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what rights you have over it. If you have a question about anything here, email contact@hit.tv.

Who we are

HIT.TV is operated by TCOM Services Inc, 1000 N. West Street, Suite 200, Wilmington, Delaware 19801, United States. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can reach us at contact@hit.tv or through our contact page.

We offer this service to readers in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, so UK GDPR and EU GDPR apply to how we handle your data, alongside the privacy laws of the United States.

What we collect

• Information you give us. If you use our contact form, we collect the name, email address, subject and message you submit.
• Technical data. Our hosting and streaming providers automatically record standard server information: IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages and video files you request, and the date and time of each request.
• Usage data. If, and only if, you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records which pages and videos you view, roughly where in the world you are, and how you arrived at the site.
• Your cookie choice. Stored in your own browser so we do not have to ask again on every visit.

We do not ask for payment details on this website. We do not knowingly collect special-category data such as health, political opinions or biometric data, and you should not send it to us through the contact form.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

UK and EU law requires us to have a lawful basis for each purpose. Ours are:

• To answer your enquiry. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely responding to someone who has chosen to contact us. You can object at any time and we will delete the correspondence.
• To operate and deliver the site and the video stream. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely running a functioning media service that readers asked to load.
• To keep the site secure, and to detect and stop abuse. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely protecting our service and our readers from attack, fraud, scraping and spam.
• To measure which stories and videos are read and watched. Lawful basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner and withdrawable at any time.
• To meet legal obligations and handle legal claims. Lawful basis: legal obligation, and legitimate interests in establishing or defending claims.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is overridden by your rights, and we limit what we collect accordingly. You can ask us for more detail on that assessment at contact@hit.tv.

Cookies and local storage

We keep this to a minimum, and nothing that is not strictly necessary is set until you accept it.

• hit-consent(strictly necessary, stored in your browser’s local storage, kept until you clear it). Records whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we do not ask on every visit.
• Google Analytics 4 cookies (analytics, typically _ga and _ga_*, up to 2 years). Set only after you choose Accept. Choosing Reject leaves analytics switched off entirely.

You can change your answer at any time, in either direction, using Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it and takes effect immediately. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We use the following service providers, who process data on our instructions:

• Vercel Inc. Website hosting, content delivery and storage of contact form submissions. Processes server logs.
• Railway Corp. Hosting and delivery of the live video stream. Processes server logs.
• Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) Delivers contact form messages to our inbox by email.
• Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd. Google Analytics 4, only where you have accepted analytics cookies.
• Law enforcement, regulators or courts, where we are legally required to disclose, or where we need to establish or defend a legal claim.

We may also disclose data to a buyer or successor if the business is sold or reorganised. If that happens, this policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.

Sending data outside the UK and EEA

We are a United States company and our providers are largely US based, so personal data collected here is transferred to and stored in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or the EEA, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or on the provider’s certification under the EU-US and UK-US Data Privacy Framework where it holds one. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards that apply by emailing contact@hit.tv.

How long we keep it

• Contact form messages: up to 24 months from your last message, so we can handle follow-up correspondence, then deleted.
• Server and stream logs: up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymised.
• Analytics data: retained by Google for up to 14 months, in a form that does not identify you by name.
• Anything needed for a legal claim or obligation: kept for as long as that claim or obligation lasts.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, access to our systems is restricted to the people who need it, and contact form submissions are stored in access-controlled storage. No website can promise perfect security, but if a breach affects your rights we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

Automated decision-making

Our stories are produced with automated systems, but we do not use your personal data to make automated decisions that produce legal effects for you or similarly significantly affect you, and we do not profile you for that purpose.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:

• ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it
• have inaccurate data corrected
• have your data erased
• restrict how we use it
• object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interests
• receive data you gave us in a portable format
• withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you did

To exercise any of these, email contact@hit.tv. We will respond within one month. There is no charge, and we will only ask you to confirm your identity where we genuinely cannot tell who is asking.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first at contact@hit.tvso we have a chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF, telephone 0303 123 1113, ico.org.uk. In the EEA you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will highlight material changes on this page. Please check back occasionally.
