Riyadh airport partially reopens: Saudi intercepts Houthi ballistic missile, drones

BREAKING: Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport partially reopens after Saudi-led coalition intercepts Houthi ballistic missiles and drones aimed at the capital.

Houthi ballistic missiles and drones were aimed at Riyadh overnight, and Saudi air defences shot them down over the capital.

The target was King Khalid International Airport, one of the busiest hubs in the Gulf. The Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted the incoming missiles and drones before they reached the terminal. These pictures show black smoke rising near the airport during the attack.

Flights were halted while the interception played out. The airport has now partially reopened, with traffic moving again on the roads into the terminals, though operations remain limited while authorities assess the situation.

This is a direct strike attempt on the Saudi capital's main civilian airport, more than a thousand kilometres from Houthi territory in Yemen. The coalition has not yet said how it will respond. The hardest fact tonight is a simple one, ballistic missiles reached the skies over Riyadh, and only the interceptors stopped them.
