Taiwan chip giant TSMC says net profit hit record in third quarter
JUST IN: TSMC posts record third-quarter net profit, up 68.7%, driven by soaring global demand for AI hardware.
TSMC's quarterly profit just jumped 68.7 percent, a record.
While half the market was busy panicking this week, the world's biggest chipmaker quietly posted the best quarter in its history. That's the company, headquartered in Hsinchu, you can see it here, that physically manufactures the chips everyone else takes credit for.
The driver is no mystery. AI hardware demand is still running hot, and nearly every advanced AI chip on earth passes through TSMC's fabs at some point. Nvidia designs them, Apple designs them, but Taiwan builds them. So when data centres keep ordering, this is where the money actually lands.
And here's what I keep coming back to. Stocks are wobbling, crypto's bleeding, inflation's got everyone twitchy, and the one business still printing records is the one with its hands on the silicon. Whatever the AI trade is worth, the foundry gets paid first.
