Trump envoys arrive in Kyiv in new push to end Russia’s war

JUST IN: US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrive in Kyiv for the first time, welcomed by Zelenskyy, in a renewed push to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

Trump's two closest envoys just arrived in Kyiv for the first time. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner came in by train and were met by President Zelenskyy at St. Sophia's Cathedral in the heart of the capital. Zelenskyy called it an opportunity for extensive discussion, and thanked Trump for sending them.

Sunday's talks won't just be a two way conversation. Officials from the U. K. , Germany and France are joining, so Europe has a seat at this table too.

The hard part is what these men are up against. Russia's full scale invasion is now four and a half years old, and every previous peace push has run into the same wall, Moscow. Even in Kyiv, the mood around this visit is described as sceptical.

So the picture is real, the handshakes are real. What nobody knows yet is whether anything Witkoff and Kushner carry home can actually stop the war.
