Arsenal agree club-record £55.7m Martinelli sale as Jesus heads to Barcelona
NEW: Arsenal agree a club-record £55.7m sale of Gabriel Martinelli to Al Hilal, with Gabriel Jesus also set to leave for Barcelona in a deal worth £8.6m.
Arsenal just sold Gabriel Martinelli for a club-record £55.7 million.
Al Hilal are the buyers, and this one stings more than most Saudi deals. Look at him here, twenty-five years old, signed from Ituano as a teenager for pocket change, now the biggest sale in Arsenal's history. Players in their prime don't usually take that flight. Martinelli just did.
And he's not leaving alone. Gabriel Jesus, seen here, is off to Barcelona for £8.6 million. That's two Brazilians out the door at the Emirates in a single window, over sixty-four million banked between them. Barcelona getting a proven striker for that money tells you exactly where his stock sits after the injuries.
So Arsenal are suddenly flush. But you don't sell your starting left winger and just pocket the cash, so what Mikel Arteta buys next is now the biggest story of their window.
