Boehly and Walter sell Chelsea stakes to Clearlake
BREAKING: Clearlake Capital takes full control of Chelsea as Todd Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss sell their stakes, with Boehly stepping down as chairman.
Todd Boehly is out at Chelsea. Chairman gone, stake sold, done.
Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss have all sold their shares to Clearlake Capital, and there he is, the man who fronted the takeover back in 2022. Each of the three held 12.8 percent, Clearlake already had 61.5, so the fund run by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano now owns the whole club outright.
This didn't come from nowhere. A rift inside the ownership group had been simmering since 2024, and both camps were trying to buy each other out by August. Clearlake won that staring contest. Boehly calls it an honour, the new bosses say he'll always be part of the Chelsea family, which is what you say on the way out the door.
Since that 2.3 billion pound purchase from Abramovich, Chelsea's best league finish is fourth, they came tenth last season, and Xabi Alonso is the latest man asked to fix it. Now the fund holds the keys to Stamford Bridge, and the stadium decision, alone. Whatever Chelsea becomes next, one name signs off on it.
