Kenya confirms four new Ebola cases, bringing total number to seven
JUST IN: Kenya confirms four new Ebola cases, bringing the total to seven, in the country's first known infections transmitted inside Kenya after the first patient arrived from Congo on October 3.
Kenya has confirmed four new Ebola cases tonight, bringing the total to seven.
This outbreak started with a single patient who crossed in from Congo on October 3. These new infections are different, and that's what matters here. They were transmitted inside Kenya itself, the country's first known local spread of the virus. Health teams are already in the field, and you can see them here, workers in full protective gear disinfecting the affected community.
The playbook from past outbreaks is clear. Trace every contact, isolate fast, and watch the borders, because the Congo connection means this is a regional problem, not just a Kenyan one. The World Health Organization will be tracking every one of these cases closely.
Seven cases can be contained. The hard fact is that the virus is now moving person to person on Kenyan soil, and the next two weeks of contact tracing will decide how this ends.
