Medvedev defaulted for hitting spectator with ball as Djokovic makes Beijing final

BREAKING: Daniil Medvedev defaulted at the China Open after hitting a spectator with a ball, as Novak Djokovic extends his record in Beijing to 33-0 and reaches the final.

Daniil Medvedev just got defaulted for hitting a spectator with a ball.

He was three points from losing anyway, trailing Djokovic 7-5, 5-3 in the Beijing semi-final, when he smacked a ball into the stands in frustration. It caught a fan near the left eye. The man was helped out of the arena and taken to hospital, and that was the match. Medvedev loses every point and every cent of prize money from the tournament.

And Novak Djokovic, well, he knows the feeling. He was thrown out of the US Open in 2020 for hitting a line judge. He said afterwards he feels sorry for Daniil and hopes the fan isn't badly hurt. The Serb is now 33 and 0 in Beijing, saved 16 of 18 break points in that match, and faces Alex de Minaur in Tuesday's final chasing title number 102 at age 39.

One moment of temper, and Medvedev walks away from Beijing with nothing at all.
