Morning Minute: The SEC Plans Rules for Tokenized Stocks
JUST IN: The SEC is planning a new framework for tokenized stocks that could be announced as soon as Friday, in what could be crypto's biggest regulatory development this year.
The SEC could bless tokenized stocks as soon as tomorrow.
Bloomberg reports the agency is rolling out two crypto moves this week, and it's doing it without waiting for Congress. The CLARITY Act is stalled on Capitol Hill until September at the earliest, so Chair Paul Atkins is going around it. Friday brings an open meeting to propose something called Regulation Crypto, a framework letting projects raise money through token sales without full securities registration.
The bigger piece is an innovation exemption for tokenized stocks. That's real equities living on a blockchain, trading like crypto, with the regulator's blessing. People have been promising that world for a decade. Now the SEC itself might build the on-ramp.
Bitcoin's sitting around sixty three thousand and barely reacting, which tells you traders want the actual text, not the headline. Fair enough. But if Friday goes the way Bloomberg says, this is the biggest regulatory shift crypto gets all year, and it came from the one agency that spent years suing the industry.
