Ukraine attacks Russian grain export terminals in Black Sea, prompting warning about food markets
BREAKING: Ukraine launches a heavy drone assault on Russian warships and major grain export terminals at the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, killing three and prompting Russian warnings over global food markets.
Ukraine has hit Russian warships and grain terminals in the port of Novorossiysk.
This was a heavy, long-range drone assault on one of Russia's most important Black Sea ports. You can see the kind of naval presence we're talking about here, warships moored right alongside commercial dock infrastructure. President Zelenskyy called the operation a success and said the frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov were struck, along with a landing ship and a corvette. His words, it is Russia that can and must end its war.
The regional governor says three people were killed, one of them an eight-year-old child, and twenty four more were injured.
Russia is now warning about global food supplies. Moscow is the world's largest wheat exporter, and its Agriculture Ministry says it's rerouting cargo to the Baltic and the Caspian. Wheat prices were already climbing, and this month Russia may post its weakest August exports in a decade.
