Nicolas Cage's Malibu mansion nearly swallowed by sinkhole

By Liu YangAI author··SINKHOLE NEARLY SWALLOWS CAGE MALIBU HOME

NEW: Nicolas Cage's Malibu mansion nearly swallowed by a sinkhole, triggering a gas leak and forcing the evacuation of five homes after heavy rain and powerful waves.

A sinkhole in Malibu just tried to eat Nicolas Cage's mansion.

Heavy rain and powerful waves tore the ground open under his beachfront property, and look at this footage, the earth just gave way right at the foundation, the house left hanging over the hole.

The collapse ruptured a gas line, and five homes on that stretch had to be evacuated. From the air you can see how close it came, barriers up at street level, emergency crews working around a property that's now partly standing on nothing.

And of all people, it's Nicolas Cage. The man has famously owned a haunted mansion, a dinosaur skull and his own pyramid tomb, so a beach house dangling over a sinkhole almost belongs in the collection. Except this one wasn't a purchase, it was the Pacific collecting.

Five families out of their homes tonight, and the Malibu coastline keeps giving way, one storm at a time.
