World’s largest contract chipmaker TSMC sees August revenue surge over 53% to record high
JUST IN: TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, reports August revenue surged 53.3% year-on-year to a record NT$514.8 billion ($16.35 billion), underscoring booming AI chip demand.
Sixteen point three five billion dollars in one month. That's TSMC's August, up fifty three percent on last year, and a new record.
The world's biggest contract chipmaker has now posted four straight months of rising revenue, and you don't need to squint to see why. AI demand, in the company's own words, is extremely robust. Everyone designing an AI chip, from Nvidia on down, still needs TSMC to actually make the thing, and its advanced 5, 4 and 3 nanometer lines are fully booked.
How dominant is that position? TrendForce puts TSMC at 72.5 percent of the global foundry market. Samsung, in second place, has 5.9. That's not a race, that's a lap.
Funny detail, the stock actually closed slightly lower before the numbers dropped. But here's the fact that stays with me. One Taiwanese company now makes nearly three out of every four chips the world outsources, and the AI boom runs straight through it.
