OpenAI is cutting Cursor loose, and the Musk connection is doing all the heavy lifting here.

Cursor is the AI coding tool that developers everywhere have been living inside for the past two years, and it's linked to Elon Musk's SpaceX. Sam Altman's company, you can see him here, is now ending its agreement with it. No long goodbye, no joint statement about mutual respect.

And of course this doesn't happen in a vacuum. Musk and Altman have been feuding since Musk walked away from OpenAI years ago, and it's only escalated, lawsuits, public jabs, competing models. You can see the two of them here, back when they were on the same side. So when OpenAI drops a tool with Musk's fingerprints on it, nobody reads that as a routine vendor review.

The rivalry that started as a boardroom disagreement is now reaching into the tools millions of developers use every day. That's the part worth remembering.
