Romero completes £34m Atletico Madrid transfer
BREAKING: Tottenham captain Cristian Romero completes his £34.2m transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham just sold their captain for thirty four million pounds.
Cristian Romero is an Atletico Madrid player, the deal done at thirty four point two million. And that's the World Cup winning centre back, the man wearing the armband, the heartbeat of that Spurs defence, gone in mid August. You can see him here in the shirt he won't be wearing again.
For Atletico, honestly, it's a bargain and a perfect fit. Romero plays like Diego Simeone coaches, all elbows and grievance, and the Metropolitano is going to adore him. Simeone signing an Argentine warrior centre back for thirty four million feels less like a transfer and more like destiny with paperwork.
For Tottenham, though, the maths is brutal. The season's about to start, and they've just lost their captain and best defender for less than half of what top centre backs cost these days. Replacing him will cost more than they got.
