Nvidia discloses $21 billion stake in SpaceX at end of second quarter

JUST IN: Nvidia discloses a $21 billion stake in Elon Musk's SpaceX as of the end of the second quarter, stemming from its $10 billion investment in xAI.

Nvidia owns twenty one billion dollars of SpaceX. That's what a new SEC filing just revealed, 122.8 million shares in Elon Musk's rocket company as of the end of June.

Here's how Jensen Huang ended up with that. Nvidia put ten billion into Musk's xAI back in January, then SpaceX swallowed xAI in February in a deal valued at one point two five trillion. When SpaceX went public in June, Nvidia was suddenly holding a rocket company.

And the relationship goes both ways. Musk says SpaceX will use Nvidia chips exclusively in its AI data centers, and he's expecting a big allocation of the new Vera Rubin GPUs next year. So Nvidia invests in the customer, the customer buys the chips. Cozy.

One catch. SpaceX stock has slid from about 171 to 140 since the quarter ended, so that stake is already down to roughly 17 billion. A chipmaker's second biggest asset is now a rocket company, and it moves four billion dollars in six weeks.
