South Korea estimates North Korea has up to 120 nuclear warheads, far above Trump's figure

JUST IN: South Korea estimates North Korea has up to 120 nuclear warheads, far above the 57 figure cited by Trump a day earlier, its defence minister tells lawmakers.

Up to one hundred and twenty nuclear warheads. That's Seoul's new estimate for North Korea, and it lands one day after Donald Trump told reporters the number was fifty seven.

South Korea's defence minister gave that figure to lawmakers at the National Assembly, and the gap is not small. Seoul's count is more than double what the American president said out loud twenty four hours earlier. Somebody's intelligence briefing is very wrong, or somebody's rounding down for effect.

And the number itself matters less than the trend. Kim Jong Un's arsenal only moves in one direction, and every estimate keeps climbing while talks stay frozen. These are the missiles Pyongyang likes to roll through its parades, and behind them sits a stockpile nobody outside the country can actually count.

When Washington and Seoul can't agree within sixty warheads on the same regime, the scariest part isn't either number. It's that nobody really knows.
