Trump says he’ll meet Kim this year, reveals North Korea has 57 nuclear weapons
BREAKING: Trump says he will meet Kim Jong Un this year and reveals North Korea now has 57 nuclear weapons.
Fifty seven nuclear weapons. That's Donald Trump's count for North Korea, said out loud to reporters on the White House South Lawn, a number no American president has ever put on the record before.
And in the same breath he said he'll meet Kim Jong Un later this year. Third act of the world's strangest diplomatic relationship, apparently back on.
But here's the catch. Kim's sister, Kim Yo Jong, went through state media on Thursday and said she was not aware of any communication between Trump and her brother. She also called his order to scale down joint military drills with South Korea unworthy of comment. That's Pyongyang's way of saying, we haven't agreed to anything.
So one side is announcing a summit, and the other side is pretending the phone never rang. Watch which one blinks. For now, the only hard fact on the table is a number, fifty seven, and it came from Washington, not Pyongyang.
