This came down as an emergency order, and you can see the building here, where the justices allowed the administration's plan to proceed while the legal fight continues in the lower courts. That word, for now, is doing a lot of work. It's not a final ruling on whether the plan is constitutional. It's the court saying the restrictions can take effect while the lawyers argue.

But here's why it matters anyway. President Trump has spent years calling mail ballots a fraud machine, and tens of millions of Americans vote that way, and the midterms are in November. Every week these rules stay in force changes how states prepare, how campaigns plan, and how people actually cast a ballot.

An interim order, sure. But elections run on calendars, and the calendar doesn't wait for the courts.
