Three killed in suspected Houthi attack on Egyptian ship in the Red Sea

BREAKING: Three crew members killed in a suspected Houthi attack on the Egyptian-owned cargo ship Tihamah in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, the first shipping deaths since the Iran war began. A container ship was also struck by a missile off Pakistan in a suspected US attack.

Three sailors dead in the Bab el-Mandeb strait. Two Pakistanis and one Indonesian, killed aboard the Egyptian-owned cargo ship Tihamah — hit by an unknown projectile while at anchor near Perim Island, off Yemen. If confirmed as a Houthi strike, these are the first shipping deaths since the Iran war began in February.

The Houthis haven't claimed it. But they declared a maritime embargo three weeks ago, and this is footage they put out of a drone launch near Mocha. Traffic through the strait has already collapsed — thirty-two ships a day, down from fifty.

Same day, off Pakistan: the container ship Vela Nova took a missile in the Gulf of Oman. The Wall Street Journal says a US helicopter put a Hellfire into its rudder after it tried to dodge the Iran blockade. Central Command isn't saying a word.

The Houthis went quiet — they never stay quiet. They claim the Tihamah attack within a week.
