Trump declares economic warfare on Iran. And, SCOTUS to rule on White House ballroom
NEW: Trump declares 'economic warfare' on Iran, vowing an 'economic D-Day' to pressure Tehran back into negotiations.
Economic D-Day. That's the phrase Donald Trump just aimed at Iran.
He's declaring what he calls economic warfare on Tehran, and he says the point is pressure, squeeze the economy hard enough that Iran comes back to the negotiating table. You can see him here, making the announcement in full campaign register, invasion metaphors and all.
Now, the language is enormous, but the tweet is light on machinery. No list of sanctions yet, no named banks, no oil measures spelled out. What we heard is intent, dressed in the loudest possible words. Tehran has spent decades under sanctions and hasn't exactly rushed to the table before, so the question is whether warfare-grade pressure actually moves them or just hardens them.
And in a very Washington split screen, the Supreme Court is set to rule on Trump's White House ballroom. One president, two battles, one of them over a dance floor.
