Trump says he doesn't want Iran deal as U.S. reportedly prepares for 'massive bombing'
JUST IN: Trump says he does not want an Iran deal as the US reportedly prepares for 'massive bombing', with his national security team discussing resuming large-scale military operations in the coming weeks.
Trump says he doesn't want a deal with Iran anymore.
He said it at a rally in San Antonio last night, and the exact words matter. The deal isn't really something I want to do, but they're willing to offer us anything to stop. That's him, on stage, while NBC reports his national security team has discussed resuming large-scale military operations within weeks. Axios goes further, saying the options include massive bombing of Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets.
His envoy Steve Witkoff has been working that deal for months, and Trump says he's doing very well. Tehran's foreign ministry fired back, pointing at contradictory positions and mixed messaging from Washington.
And the timing is impossible to ignore. Midterms in weeks, approval ratings at a record low, fuel prices biting. If the bombers fly before election day, nobody will believe that was a coincidence.
