BREAKING: US Trade Rep Greer blames Canada for collapsed trade talks, saying 'they wanted more.' Canadian negotiators left Washington without a deal, and Trump's 50% tariffs on about $20 billion of Canadian goods took effect Saturday.

Fifty percent tariffs on twenty billion dollars of Canadian goods are now live, and Washington says it's Canada's fault.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer went on CNBC this morning and put it plainly, they wanted more. You can see him here. His version, both sides had a deal on Tuesday night, then in the final hours Ottawa moved the goalposts.

Canada tells the exact opposite story. Prime Minister Mark Carney says it was the Americans who made last-minute changes he called unfair, uneconomic, and proof you can't rely on any deal with this White House. Same room, two completely different endings.

Meanwhile the tariffs kicked in at one minute past midnight Saturday, hitting wine, cement, even hockey sticks. Taxing hockey sticks at fifty percent is about the most pointed message you can send Canada. Business groups on both sides of the border are already warning about costs, and nobody's booked a flight back to the table yet.
