UAE plans $46 billion investment in Germany, with data centers a key focus
JUST IN: UAE plans to invest €40 billion ($46 billion) in Germany, with data centre infrastructure a key focus.
Forty billion euros. That's what the UAE just promised Germany, and the biggest chunk goes to data centres.
The deal landed during a state visit this week, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed sitting down with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and you can see the two of them here. The package covers artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and energy, plus a new push on defence cooperation. Roughly one gigawatt of fresh data centre capacity is in the plan, and ten billion euros reportedly heads straight to Bavaria.
Why does Berlin care so much? Because Germany's economy has been stuck in the mud, and Merz badly needs a win he can hold up. Why does Abu Dhabi care? They're buying friends and supply chains in Europe while the oil money still flows.
The telling number is this. The UAE had already parked 34 billion euros in Germany before this week. Now they're more than doubling down.
