Williams sisters given wild card for US Open women's doubles
JUST IN: Serena and Venus Williams handed a wild card to play together in the women's doubles at the 2026 US Open, their first Grand Slam pairing since 2022.
Serena and Venus Williams are playing Grand Slam doubles together again. At 44 and 46.
The US Open just handed the sisters a wild card for the women's doubles, their first major as a pair since 2022, and here they are doing what they've done since the nineties. Fourteen major titles together, three Olympic golds, two of those trophies won right there at Flushing Meadows.
Serena's comeback has been a rollercoaster. Nearly four years away, a knee injury at Wimbledon that forced them out of the doubles there, then a mixed doubles run with Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday that thrilled the crowd before a quarter-final exit. Venus, somehow the busier of the two, already has a singles wild card as well.
First match expected September 3 or 4, final on the 11th. The last time they entered this tournament together, everyone called it a farewell. Turns out the Williams sisters don't do farewells.
