NEW: Apple's foldable 'iPhone Duo' will reportedly start at $2,000, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, with 256GB storage and shipping as soon as October, hours before the company's launch event.

Two thousand dollars. That's Apple's reported opening price for its first folding iPhone, and it's apparently called the iPhone Duo.

The leak comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, dropped just hours before Apple's launch event, which feels almost rude. The base model gets 256 gigs of storage, ships as soon as October, and comes in white or dark blue. Concept renders have been floating around for months, and you can see the general idea here.

Fun detail, Microsoft already used the Duo name on its own foldable, the Surface Duo, which died quietly. Apple recycling a Microsoft flop's name is a bold bit of confidence. On price, it undercuts Samsung's top Fold at twenty one hundred but sits above the entry Galaxy and Pixel folds at eighteen ninety nine.

This is also the first iPhone launch under new CEO John Ternus. His opening act is Apple's priciest phone ever, and by this afternoon we'll know if the leak was right down to the dollar.
