U.S. Hits 5 Iranian Oil Tankers, Citing Attempted Strikes on Warship

BREAKING: Iran launches missiles at Jordan and strikes US targets there in retaliation for American forces destroying five Iranian oil tankers, as Tehran threatens attacks on tankers off Kuwait and Bahrain.

Tehran calls it retaliation. Hours ago, American forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, saying Iran had attempted missile strikes on a US Navy warship in the Gulf. These are the waters where it started, and now the answer has come, not at sea, but on Jordanian soil where American forces are based.

And Iran isn't stopping there. Tehran is openly threatening attacks on tankers off Kuwait and Bahrain, which would drag two more Gulf states directly into the line of fire and put even more of the world's oil supply at risk.

A few days ago this was a confrontation over shipping lanes. Tonight, Iranian missiles are landing in a third country, aimed at Americans. That is no longer an exchange at sea. That is a regional war finding its shape.
