Brewers hold on in ninth to edge Rays in Game 1 of World Series
JUST IN: The Brewers hold on in the ninth to edge the Rays 3-2 in Game 1 of the World Series, in just their second Fall Classic appearance and first since 1982.
The Brewers just won a World Series game for the first time since 1982.
Game 1 in Milwaukee, and it finished 3-2 over the Tampa Bay Rays, the kind of score where nobody in the building exhaled until the last out. The place was rocking, and you can picture the scene at American Family Field, forty four years of waiting packed into one Friday night.
Jacob Misiorowski gave them five gritty innings and just one run, the bats jumped on Nick Martinez for two in the first, and Jackson Chourio tacked on an RBI single in the seventh. Then it got tense. Closer Trevor Megill let the tying run get all the way to third in the ninth, and left him standing there. Not pretty. Absolutely counts.
This is only Milwaukee's second Fall Classic ever, and the last one went seven games and broke their hearts. One down, three to go.
