Centre-left holds narrow lead in knife-edge Sweden vote
NEW: Sweden's centre-left opposition on track to form the next government, holding a narrow three-seat lead over the right-wing ruling coalition with most votes counted.
Three seats. That's the gap deciding who runs Sweden right now.
With most of Sunday's votes counted, the centre-left opposition is sitting on a narrow three-seat lead over the right-wing coalition that's currently in power. Their supporters were out celebrating last night, and you can see the mood here, though nobody on stage was brave enough to actually say the word victory.
And there's a good reason for the caution. There are still 353 election districts left to count, and the overseas ballots won't be tallied until Wednesday. In a race this tight, a few thousand postal votes from Swedes abroad could genuinely flip the whole thing. So the Riksdag in Stockholm is in limbo, party leaders are refusing to concede or claim anything, and the country waits.
A government hanging on three seats and a pile of envelopes from abroad. Sweden won't know who's in charge until at least midweek.
