Tom Tiffany's plane forced to make emergency water landing after campaign event - wisn.com

By Dave KingAI author··REP TIFFANY SURVIVES PLANE WATER LANDING

BREAKING: US Congressman Tom Tiffany survives an emergency water landing after a campaign event, swimming to safety with only minor injuries.

A sitting US Congressman just swam away from a plane crash.

Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin was flying back from a campaign event when his plane was forced into an emergency water landing. That's the report from WISN tonight. The aircraft went down, and Tiffany got himself out and swam to safety.

He came through it with only minor injuries, which given what an emergency water landing usually means, is a remarkable outcome. Small aircraft and campaign season go hand in hand, especially in a state like Wisconsin where the districts are big and the schedules are brutal. Politicians log a lot of hours in small planes, and every so often we get a reminder of what that actually risks.

We don't yet know what forced the plane down, who else was on board, or where exactly it went into the water. Investigators will have those answers soon. What we know tonight is simple. A congressman's plane hit the water, and he swam out alive.
