FBI raids ex-US Representative Swalwell’s home amid sexual misconduct probe

BREAKING: FBI raids the home of former US Representative Eric Swalwell, a vocal Trump critic, amid a sexual misconduct probe.

The FBI has raided the Washington home of former congressman Eric Swalwell.

Agents also seized his electronic devices at San Francisco airport over the weekend, according to multiple US reports. The bureau itself is declining to comment. This is part of a sexual misconduct investigation. One woman has publicly accused Swalwell of sexual assault during his time in office, and four others allege other forms of misconduct. He resigned from Congress in April and dropped out of the California governor's race, where he'd been a frontrunner.

There's a second layer here. Swalwell was one of Trump's impeachment prosecutors, and this week the White House released FBI documents about his past relationship with a suspected Chinese spy. His lawyer says the release was meant to punish an outspoken critic of the administration. Trump has openly vowed retribution against opponents, and James Comey has already been charged.

A serious probe, a president's enemies list, or both at once. That's the question Washington can't answer tonight.
