Hrgovic stuns Itauma with epic comeback as Brit loses unbeaten record
BREAKING: Filip Hrgovic stuns unbeaten Moses Itauma with a ninth-round stoppage at The O2 to win the vacant IBF heavyweight title, becoming Croatia's first world heavyweight champion.
Moses Itauma just got stopped, and Croatia has its first world heavyweight champion.
Filip Hrgovic took the vacant IBF title in the ninth round at The O2, and for six rounds nobody saw it coming. Itauma rocked him inside the opening minute, put him on a glove in the second, and detonated an uppercut flush on the chin in the fifth. Hrgovic ate every bit of it, and you can see it here, the older man walking forward through everything the twenty one year old threw.
The seventh round was the first time Itauma had ever gone past six in his career, and the eighth broke him. He emptied the tank trying to finish it, and by the ninth he was out on his feet, corner throwing the towel with their man defenceless.
Hrgovic asked afterwards, is a chin important. Chin is important. He called Itauma the future and himself the present, and tonight the present won.
