JUST IN: Trump says the US is considering an attack on Iran as soon as Sunday, or could reach a major deal with Tehran.

Donald Trump says the United States could attack Iran as soon as Sunday.

The president put two outcomes on the table at once. Washington might have to finish the job, in his words, or it could reach a major deal with Tehran. He gave no detail on what either option would look like, only that a decision could come within hours.

Iran's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, is blaming the Americans for the collapse of interim talks. He called them cowards who messed everything up, and yet in the same breath he said Tehran should still push to conclude an agreement. Both capitals are keeping the door to diplomacy open while preparing for the opposite.

So the region goes into Sunday with the two scenarios side by side, a strike or a signature, and nobody outside the White House knows which one is real.
