JUST IN: Trump set to announce a new Audi plant in Georgia, with the factory expected to produce 200,000 SUVs annually, a government official says.

Audi is coming to Georgia, and Trump wants the credit.

The president is set to announce that Volkswagen's premium brand will build an assembly plant in the state, churning out 200,000 SUVs a year, the Q7, Q8 and the new Q9. There's more. Audi also plans to build 25,000 vehicles in South Carolina, piggybacking on Scout Motors' two billion dollar plant in Blythewood.

The timing isn't subtle. Georgia has tight Senate and governor races coming, and Trump wants proof his auto tariffs are working. Audi could use the win too, its sales fell seven percent in the first half of this year, and its US numbers are down sixteen.

Here's the fact that stings in Germany though. Audi's Neckarsulm plant is one of four Volkswagen sites facing possible closure after 2030. Those 200,000 SUVs have to come from somewhere.
