Jeff Bezos might finally get his hands on a sports team

NEW: Jeff Bezos is reportedly in talks to buy at least a 30% stake in Liverpool FC at a £1.35 billion valuation, alongside Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, his first sports investment.

Jeff Bezos wants thirty percent of Liverpool at a one point three five billion pound valuation.

The Guardian says the Amazon founder is in talks alongside Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin — and this would be Bezos's first sports team ever, after a flirtation with American football that went nowhere. Liverpool, for the record, is worth about six billion dollars per Forbes. This is one of the crown jewels of European sport, playing out of Anfield, and Americans already hold shares in thirteen of twenty Premier League clubs. Boehly got Chelsea, Woody Johnson got Crystal Palace, even Tom Brady owns a slice of Birmingham City.

A man worth two hundred eighty billion dollars was frankly overdue for this. He's got the yacht; the sports team was the missing accessory. And with Amazon already streaming European football, don't tell me there's no angle.

So here's my question: Bezos's group agrees a Liverpool stake before the year is out.
