Kraken and Galaxy flipped late as Solana approved a major supply cut
JUST IN: Solana approves a major supply cut, potentially reducing issuance by nearly 18.9 million SOL over six years, with Kraken and Galaxy validators flipping their votes late to push it over the threshold.
Solana just voted to shrink its own money printer by nearly nineteen million coins.
The proposal doubles Solana's disinflation rate, which could cut roughly 18.9 million SOL from issuance over six years. It closed with about 176 million SOL in favour, and the finish was pure theatre. Kraken's big validator, sitting on almost nine million SOL, flipped from one hundred percent Against to ninety percent For right before the deadline. Galaxy went from mostly Abstain to majority For at the same moment. Helius boss Mert Mumtaz says five hundred phone calls dragged votes in during the final seconds, and that it passed by a literal hair.
Here's what stakers should actually hear though. This vote is a mandate, not code. The real supply cut still has to be specified, tested, and activated across every Solana client, and until that ships, not a single coin's issuance has changed.
