Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss opposes sale of family's stake to Bob Iger, Joshua Kushner

JUST IN: Lakers governor Jeanie Buss opposes the sale of her family's stake to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner, saying any vote suggesting the family is selling 'would be and is void,' throwing the record deal into doubt.

Jeanie Buss says the Lakers sale is void. Her word, through her lawyer, void.

Earlier today the story was that the Buss family had sold their last 17.8 percent to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, ending forty seven years of ownership. Now Jeanie's attorney has sent a letter to the law firms representing her five siblings saying she never agreed to sell, and any vote suggesting otherwise, quote, would be and is void.

The legal spine here is a 2017 court order that makes her the controlling owner, and the trust requires keeping fifteen percent so she can stay in that chair. Her lawyer says any sibling who votes to sell anyway is breaching the trust and in contempt of court.

So Iger and Kushner have Mark Walter's majority stake and a twelve and a half billion dollar valuation, and now a family fight standing between them and the rest. The record deal in sports history just hit a wall named Jeanie.
