The vessel was transiting the strait when it was struck, and details beyond that are still thin. What we do know is the timing. This comes just one day after Saudi Arabia temporarily shut its East-West pipeline following a drone attack. Two incidents, two days, both aimed squarely at the plumbing of the global oil trade.

The strait itself is the choke point that keeps traders up at night, roughly a fifth of the world's oil moves through that narrow stretch of water, and you can see the kind of traffic that lives there. When somebody starts putting projectiles into hulls in that channel, insurers reprice, tankers reroute, and everyone who fills a fuel tank eventually feels it.

No group has claimed this yet. But with the pipeline hit on Saturday and a vessel struck on Sunday, the pattern is doing the talking. The world's most important oil corridor is now getting shot at.
