Number of missing in Nepal and China floods soars to nearly 3,000
BREAKING: The number of people missing in the Nepal and China floods soars to nearly 3,000, with 633 bodies recovered so far as rescuers battle to locate survivors.
Nearly 3,000 people are now missing in the floods across Nepal and China.
Rescuers recovered 633 bodies so far, and officials say some of the dead may have been swept downstream as far as India. This was a wall of water and debris, described as tsunami-like, that tore through the Himalayan region days ago and engulfed entire villages. In Nepal's Nuwakot district, buildings are half buried in mud.
The missing list keeps growing for a hard reason. This area is full of energy projects, and Nepal's disaster authority just added 933 hydropower workers to it. They join trekkers, and pilgrims who were travelling to Mount Kailash in Tibet.
A glacier collapse and ice avalanche likely fuelled the flood, and days on, rescuers are still searching. Nearly 3,000 families are waiting for news that gets harder to hope for with every hour.
