OpenAI unveils ChatGPT for Teens with stronger guardrails, parental controls

JUST IN: OpenAI unveils 'ChatGPT for Teens' with stronger guardrails and parental controls.

OpenAI just built a version of ChatGPT it trusts around teenagers.

It's called ChatGPT for Teens, unveiled today, and the pitch is stronger guardrails plus parental controls. That's the company behind the chatbot, headquartered in San Francisco, deciding the regular product needed a padded room before your fifteen year old gets in.

And read that from the other direction. If teens need a special version with the sharp edges filed off, OpenAI is quietly telling you what the normal version is. Sam Altman has spent months fielding questions about what these bots say to young users, and handing parents a dashboard is the cleanest answer money can build. It also happens to be great business, because whoever wins the teenagers keeps them for decades.

The guardrails only matter if teens actually stay inside them, and every parent watching already knows how that usually goes.
