Williams sisters lose tie-break thriller in first doubles reunion since 2022
BREAKING: Serena and Venus Williams lose a tie-break thriller in their first doubles match together in four years, falling in the first round of the Cincinnati Open.
Serena and Venus Williams just lost a tie-break they nearly stole back from six love down.
First doubles match together in four years, wild card entry at the Cincinnati Open, and they went down 2-6, 6-1, 10-8 to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns. Serena is 44 now, and you can see her here, still moving like she owns the court.
The first set was rusty, the second was vintage, and then the match tie-break turned into theatre. Down 6-0, they clawed it back to 8-7 off two Kostyuk double faults, the crowd losing its mind, and then Venus double-faulted to end it. Brutal way to close a fairy tale.
Serena said she didn't come out here to win the tournament, she came to have fun with her sister. Fourteen Grand Slam doubles titles between them, and the US Open starts August 30. I wouldn't assume we've seen the last of this pairing.
