More than 100 Indian pilgrims are missing after flash floods hit the Nepal-Tibet border.
Flash floods and landslides tore through the border corridor, the high mountain route that carries pilgrims towards Mount Kailash in Tibet. It is one of the most sacred journeys in Hinduism, and one of the most exposed roads in the Himalayas. Twelve British nationals are also unaccounted for.
Rescue teams are working through what the water left behind, and these pictures show evacuation efforts on the ground, workers helping the elderly out of truck beds and away from the flood zone. Access is the hardest part. This corridor is remote in good weather, and right now the roads that rescuers need are the same roads the landslides took out.
Over a hundred families in India, and twelve in Britain, are waiting for a phone call tonight. That is the whole story, and it is not over.
