BREAKING: A Philippine court has issued an arrest warrant for Vice President Sara Duterte.

A Philippine court just issued an arrest warrant for the sitting vice president.

Sara Duterte, second highest official in the country, now has a judge's signature hanging over her. She's not some backbencher. She won the vice presidency in a landslide in 2022, and until recently she was talked about as the favourite for the next presidential race.

And the family context makes this heavier. Her father, Rodrigo Duterte, the former president, is already sitting in ICC custody in The Hague. Her alliance with President Marcos collapsed into open political war a long time ago, complete with impeachment attempts in Congress. Now the courts have entered the picture against the daughter too.

So the hardest fact tonight is this. In the Philippines, a Duterte holding national office and a warrant with her name on it are no longer two different worlds.
