A car was driven deliberately into a group of people overnight in northern Germany. Four to five people were injured.
It happened in Neustadt am Rübenberge, a town near Hannover in Lower Saxony, late on Monday night. Police say a BMW was intentionally rammed into the group. The injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
A police patrol on routine traffic checks intervened and shot at the car to stop it. The suspects then fled on foot, and as of this morning they remain at large. A reporter at the scene described damaged cars with flat tires, a smashed rear window and bullet holes.
Here is what investigators have said so far. The people involved likely knew each other, and the attack appears targeted, not random. The number of suspects and the motive are still unclear, and forensic work is ongoing.
The hardest fact tonight is a simple one. Whoever did this is still out there.
