Premier League breaks transfer record for second straight summer

BREAKING: Premier League clubs smash their all-time summer transfer record for a second straight year, with spending reaching £3.46bn.

Three point four six billion pounds. That's what Premier League clubs just spent in one summer window, and it's a record for the second year running.

The old mark of £3.14bn fell on deadline day itself, when Iliman Ndiaye left Everton for Manchester City at sixty million. Then Enzo Fernandez made it official after the window shut, Chelsea to City for £125m, a joint British record. Deadline day alone burned through £475m.

Here's the number that gets me. Five years ago the whole window cost £1.13bn. It's tripled. Three of football's ten priciest signings ever happened this summer, and every single one landed in England. Chelsea paid £117m for Morgan Rogers, Liverpool went past £100m for Bradley Barcola, and only two clubs outside England managed a deal above sixty million all summer.

The rest of Europe isn't competing anymore. It's selling.
