RAF Fairford Incident Was Coordinated By Man Acting for Iran, UK Prosecutors Say

NEW: UK prosecutors say the foiled attack on RAF Fairford, a base used by US bombers to strike Iran, was coordinated by a man acting for Iran, as two men are charged over the plot.

UK prosecutors say Iran was behind a foiled attack on a British air base. Two men have now been charged over the plot.

The target was RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, and you can see the base here. It is not just any installation. Fairford is used by American B-2 stealth bombers, the aircraft that flew strike missions against Iran. That makes the alleged motive hard to miss.

Prosecutors told the court the attack was coordinated by a man acting for Iran. The case now moves through the British courts, and the charges put Tehran at the centre of an alleged operation on UK soil, against a base hosting US forces.

London has warned for months about Iranian plots inside Britain. This is the first time prosecutors have tied one directly to an attack on a military base shared with the Americans.
