Russian drone hits train two km from Polish border, rail operator says
BREAKING: A Russian drone hit a train just two kilometres from the Polish border, Ukraine's rail operator says, as it monitors aerial threats to keep passengers and staff safe.
A Russian drone hit a train two kilometres from the Polish border. Two kilometres. That's the distance of a short morning run from NATO territory.
Ukraine's rail operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed the strike and says it's monitoring aerial threats to keep passengers and staff safe. These pictures show passengers being evacuated onto the platform, with smoke still visible down the line. The railway has been a lifeline for Ukraine throughout this war, moving people, grain and aid when the skies are closed, and Russia keeps aiming at it.
What makes this one different is the geography. Poland is a NATO member, and Warsaw has scrambled jets before when Russian strikes crept close to its frontier. Every strike this near the border is a stress test of how much margin for error actually exists.
Tonight that margin was two kilometres. That's the whole story.
