Tesla says it will finally unveil the second generation Roadster on October 1
NEW: Tesla says it will finally unveil the second-generation Roadster on October 1, nearly eight years after the halo sports car was first announced.
Eight years. That's how long Tesla has been promising this car.
The second generation Roadster finally gets its unveiling on October 1. Tesla announced it with two words on X, go for launch, and a graphic showing the date, which you can see here. The rocket language isn't an accident either. The car is supposed to come with optional cold gas thrusters built by SpaceX, and Elon Musk has hinted it might fly, in some fashion nobody has ever explained.
Remember, this thing was announced in November 2017. People put down fifty thousand dollar reservations. Sam Altman famously grumbled that seven and a half years felt like a long wait, and Musk shot back that he'd been refunded. Reporting says the original design was scrapped entirely, so whatever rolls out on October 1 is a new car.
And here's the part that stings. Even after the reveal, Musk says production is still twelve to eighteen months away. The wait isn't over. It's just getting a new countdown.
