The Los Angeles Angels are being sold for a record $4 billion. Here's what every MLB team is now worth
BREAKING: Stan Kroenke has agreed to buy the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno family in a deal valuing the MLB team and its regional network at a record $4 billion.
Four billion dollars for the Los Angeles Angels. That's the new record price for a baseball team.
Stan Kroenke, the man who already owns Arsenal, the LA Rams and the Denver Nuggets, is buying the club from the Moreno family, and the deal includes the team's regional sports network. Ten times the Angels' revenue, and for context, the Padres sold last month at eight times. The Angels haven't won a playoff game in over a decade, so what Kroenke's really paying for is two words, Los Angeles.
And the whole league just got richer on paper. CNBC reran its valuations off this deal and the average MLB team is now worth just over four billion, up 37 percent since March. The Yankees sit on top at twelve billion. Even the Miami Marlins, dead last, are worth 2.2 billion.
The wildest part, this record probably doesn't survive the next big-market sale.
