Man City sign Fernández in joint-PL record deal

BREAKING: Manchester City sign Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for a Premier League record-equaling £125m ($169m) fee, on a five-year deal.

One hundred and twenty five million pounds. Manchester City just made Enzo Fernández the joint most expensive signing in Premier League history.

The Argentine World Cup winner leaves Chelsea on a five year deal, and there he is, already in City colours, pen on paper. The fee matches what Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer, so nobody can say City overpaid by the market's own mad standards.

Here's the detail I enjoy. Chelsea wanted £120 million and set an August 14 deadline for bids. That deadline came and went with silence. Then City showed up in the final 48 hours, and Chelsea ended up with five million more than they asked for. That's the rare deadline day where everyone walks away claiming victory.

Fernández says City are a club built for success. Chelsea just sold a World Cup winner who told them he wanted out, and still turned a profit on their own asking price.
